Shortcuts and Highlighting Cells

These are some of the ways to highlight cells in Microsoft Excel. We can use Ctrl + key and Shift + key.

It is very easy. You can see the shortcuts from following table!

‘Ctrl’ + key
Within a data range
Outside a data range
Ctrl + ®
Takes you to the final cell with data in that row, if you are amongst data
If you are not within spreadsheet data, it will take to the furthest right cell in the spreadsheet (IV)
Ctrl + ¬
If you are amongst data, to the furthest left column in the spreadsheet data
If you are away from the data in a spreadsheet, this will takes you to the final cell with data in that row
Ctrl + ­
If you are amongst data, to the topmost cell in the spreadsheet data
If you are away from the data in a spreadsheet, this will takes you to the topmost cell with data in that column or row 1 if there is no data in that column
Ctrl + ¯
Takes you to the final cell with data in that column, if you are amongst data
If you are away from the data in a spreadsheet, this will takes you to the bottommost cell with data in that column or row 65536 (excel 2003) or row 1048576 (excel 2007) if there is no data in that column
Ctrl + End
Takes you to the final cell with data – i.e. the bottom right-most cell of the spreadsheet
Takes you to the final cell with data – i.e. the bottom right-most cell of the spreadsheet
Ctrl + Home
Takes you to cell A1, wherever you are in the spreadsheet
Takes you to cell A1, wherever you are in the spreadsheet
‘Shift’ + key
Shift + ®
Highlights cells, cell by cell moving to the right
Shift + ¬
Highlights cells, cell by cell moving to the left
Shift + ­
Highlights cells, cell by cell moving upwards
Shift + ¯
Highlights cells, cell by cell moving downwards
Shift + Home
Highlights cells to the far left of the spreadsheet from the cursor position
Shift + Ctrl + arrow
Selects all cells to the end of range in direction of arrow
